Owl Division Art & Valentine Holders
This afternoon we prepared our Valentine holders in preparation for the thrill that is handing out Valentine cards tomorrow! I don't know about you but I have always tried to structure the handing out of Valentine cards or hold off until we finished some activities - but until they hand out and look through their Valentines my kids can just not focus. So we took some time today to prep for the big occasion. Tomorrow will we hand them out as soon as we finish daily morning activities - hopefully we will be able to move on to Valentine themed math!
I took an idea from Doodle Bugs Teaching and made it work for supplies that I had (like paper and brown bags : ) ). I just gave them the shapes to color in and assemble (heart, circles, triangles) - I made them on Publisher. They are supposed to be owls but look kind of like cats - but we are done and ready for the cards and treats.
Then for our actual art activity we put our division skills to work and made Division Owls. I got the idea for the owl from The Inspired Apple. I gave the kids heart tracers and had them trace out multi-color hearts. I gave them a minimum number. Then they had to arrange their hearts in arrays to create the body of the owl. Then they added the eyes, ears and beaks from shapes I made in Publisher. For the math connection they had to write division sentences for their array. On the paper I wrote "Owl always be able to divide usinig arrays!" Take a look:
Spreading some Valentine love - everything in my TpT and Teacher's Notebook is on sale!
